Postcards were the first medium to mass-distribute photography. "Fantasy" for funny, comic scenes created by hand at a time when digital camera and manipulation did not exist. The photographs and graphic designers used photographic techniques such as double exposure, optical deformation, montage.... "These visual games had a real impact on the avant-gardist artists of the 1920s and 1930s. Paul Eluard, Andre Breton and Salvador Dali, collected fantasy postcards. Man Ray, Herbert Bayer, and Hannah Hoch used them as materials or as models for their own works", Clement Cheroux.
